AFE Bidirectional Converters

The need for regenerative IGBT power supplies has resulted in the development of F3E and AFE bidirectional converters, products with rectifying capabilities recovery and network recovery capacity.
AFE bidirectional converter is an Active Front-End regenerative unit - identified by the AFE code.
It's a regenerative power module where the converter uses the IGBT to regulate the DC-bus voltage in every working condition of the load.

Generally the AFE converteris used when a low harmonic content of the system is required. The power supply systems with AFE units, combined with LCL network filters, allow the THD of current and voltage to be kept below the levels required by the most strict regulations.
SECOM AFE regenerative module, however, maintains the same modularity advantages as the F3E and low voltage Inverter modules, in fact it is possible to connect up to 8 modules in parallel.
This type of drives is often used for applications in the heavy industry sectorwhere the production process involves frequent braking (braking power is quite high), and in special applications where the load often becomes the source of power, as in the presence of batteries, supercapacitors, large magnets or whatever.

SECOM has realized a series of AFE converters in the 100kW-4MW power range at 400 and 690Vac.
